Waking up to Self Awareness
How do you rate your performance as the lead in your team?π€
Being self aware is important
A lot of my former bosses when I was working in Australia, Japan, Malaysia and across SEA, they have that trait - being self aware and it is showcased through how the manage, think and communicate.
I've been lucky because most of them have quite clear decision making processes. Most would take time to brief me on their choices, by laying out their thought process, discussing the pros and cons and the ability to map ideas out by considering most if not all the multiple elements involved. π¨βπΌπ©βπΌ
I've always been amazed by how deep and intricate they think, just by being able to loop in all that's going on around them. π―
Fast forward to the present, throughout my coaching journey, I learned how critical it is to be aware. Be it self awareness, awareness of our surroundings or being able to make good sense of what is transpiring around us at any particular moment in time.
It's not difficult to be self aware and here are some of the things that we can do to start figuring out our real situation. You'd probably need to:
π Have an open feedback culture at work both formal and informal
π Open communication between team members of all levels
π Clearly understand your own KPI and how it ties in to the overall departmental and organizational goals
π Taking time to self reflect and debrief on personal performance from time to time
π Having a good mix of short/mid/long term goals and doing proper follow ups
π Knowing the baseline item for all items we are focusing on, be it quantitative or qualitative information
These are things that I thought about that could help and do let me know of other ways to raise self awareness π
One way to start on raising self awareness is to be able to rate yourself ie your own performance. When you are asked this, you then start thinking about it and justifying your answers. Then follow through with asking your team, to see if the perception and answer is the same. π
Let's start with this question for all of you.
