Why do some people do well in their career?
Why do some people do well in their career?
Many reasons.
Almost all the time we attribute it to the person themselves having the right formula - motivational, proactive, smart etc.
However, the organisation we work with also plays a huge part in ensuring that workers get the best opportunity to grow their career.
I was at running a session for a group of management trainees and this is my second session with them.
They are in a one year development program, and I'm invited to contribute to some of the programs.
I was delivering on problem solving and decision making at work.
One of the tasks, were to understand what are key issues they were facing at work, and how we can collectively work together to solve the problems.
Naturally, the problems listed down involved stakeholder management, prioritizing, time management, knowledge etc. Which, for me, at that level is all too common ☺️
Growing pains I call it.
However, the participants didn't realise. I met them a few months back when they were quite fresh in the organisation.
They have improved a lot. And I'm impressed with the maturity, capability to explain and speak, depth of discussion and debates and much more.
I was amazed.
How I wished that I too had that opportunity when I started working.
Learning points for me is:
✨ Importance of setting up a development program for your staff - junior to senior. It makes a whole lot of difference. 📈
✨ Leadership is really people management skills at the core. We can be super good at what we do, but the key differentiator is how well we work with our team. 🕺
✨ Communication at work. Boy, you can never underestimate the power of communication at work. Be it with your team, bosses or even your clients. It sets the tone of who you want to be at work. 😎
I've run a few management trainee programs for all sorts of clients - smaller outfits, MNC, global firms and past employers too.
I enjoy doing it, because I get to play a part in helping them grow at the workplace by making an impact at work.
You've been thru a management trainee program before? if so, what was your experience like?
